Simon
It’s the movies that have really been running things in America
ever since they were invented. They show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, how to feel about it and how to look
how you feel about it.
Andy Warhol This series
of work is based on imagery from the fashion industry. It considers how fashion advertising is accepted
as an empowered role model and becomes, in a sense, an adult form of ‘Simon says’ for consumers. Whether subtle or blatant, every
spread has an inherently specific message. By pulling these out of the magazines and translating them into
paintings, art holds a mirror to fashion. This begs more question of depth, and possibly a greater understanding
of the subliminal which is typically lost in the turning of pages.
